September 2018: Back to the Garden Outdoor Open Studio Reception

Twenty of my latest mixed media assemblages depicting the human/earth relationship were on display in my backyard hanging on trees, brick walls and fences as well as emerging from the garden floor. Materials used were rusted steel, rocks, wire, glass and other found objects. All pieces are treated with an exterior finish so that they can be displayed outdoors.

My recent solo show ROCK/PAPER/SCISSORS/STEEL was a big success and all the positive feedback has encouraged me to continue working with steel, but pushing it even further for the next series. Steel is such a wonderful material to work with; it can be sanded, scratched, etched, rusted and creates fantastic effects when light hits it.

Here's some pics from the show. Works on steel were displayed in the main gallery, mixed media collage on wood in the smaller studio and my new collection of wearable art hung in the conservatory of the beautiful McKay Art Centre in Unionville.

Gallery crashers: unbeknownst to me, Main St. Unionville had Halloween street celebrations for the kids - luckily I had leftovers from the reception. Was wiped out of candy quickly, the cheese and crackers/veggies and dip were a little slower to go, but was pretty much depleted. Good fun!
